Some young people seeking nominations for our US Military Academies who live in Texas’ 23rd Congressional have reached out to my office asking to be considered for nomination. However, I am only allowed to nominate students residing within the 20th Congressional District.

Adela and daughter Sofia are now home!

Adela was locked away at the Dilley Trailer Prison four weeks after giving birth to her son. Parents know the first few weeks with a newborn are so precious and important.

I visited Octavio Daniel Cabrera Valdez today at the Karnes detention center. He told me he was served rice and beans with a stone in it and cracked his molar. He needs surgery yet ICE has only given him ibuprofen.

Octavio Daniel Cabrera Valdez was at work when ICE took him away from the family he was raising in San Antonio. He’s been at the Karnes detention center since April.

Today, I’ll meet again with Octavio and others to check on their wellbeing and monitor conditions.

Dolores Huerta was a trailblazing civil rights leader who fought for the dignity of farm workers and migrant laborers. Organizing walkouts, boycotts, and nonviolent protests, she transformed the U.S. labor movement and improved countless lives.

Four weeks after giving birth, Adela Nohemy Castellanos was torn from her newborn son and family. Today, she and her daughter Sofia are still locked away at the Dilley Trailer Prison. I’m going to Dilley this week to see Adela and Sofia, and push for their release.

Today, the Fifth Circuit stripped immigrants facing detention in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi of their right to due process. People who have lived in our communities for years, even decades, can now be locked away with no chance to see a judge or ask for bond.

No American should have a federal agent knock on their door demanding they prove their citizenship ahead of the election. Under Trump, agents did just that.

Our democracy requires free and fair elections. Not voter intimidation. This is despicable.
